1. The Pentagonal Towers

This is the only example of this type of structure from the Iberian period. In their Greek origins, these towers were isolated from one another and formed part of a wall. In the case of the towers of Castellet de Banyoles, they marked the entrance and are located slightly converging towards the exterior, which leads us to believe that they were less a defensive measure and more a symbol of prestige. Both are practically identical, with a pentagonal shape and a solid base in the shape of and outward-looking ship's prow. At the rear there is an empty rectangular room where there would have been an interior stairway up to the top of the towers. The base is made up of rough-hewn stone blocks which were built up with adobe walls and the towers are built directly on the rocky ground without any type of foundations.
