Other things to do
Various ways to enjoy the Land of the Laietans
Walk…
Parks and beaches...
- Parc de Collserola or el massís de l'Obac in the Vallès Occidental region. Parc de la Serralada de Marina in the Barcelonès region and park of Montnegre-Corredor in the Maresme region.
- There are also urban parks which are nice to wander through: Parc del Molinet, Can Zam and the Parc Fluvial del Besòs in Santa Coloma de Gramenet; or Parc del Besòs in Sant Adrià. In Barcelona you can visit Parc de Montjuïc, Parc del Laberint d'Horta (Horta Labyrinth Park) or Parc Güell.
- The beaches along the Barcelonès and Maresme coastlines are wide with coarse sand. Generally speaking, these beaches are lined with pathways where one may walk or sit and have a drink.
Enjoy...
- The Semana Santa (Easter Week) processions in Barcelona and Mataró; the Holy Thursday procession in Badalona, known as the “silence procession”.
- The Festes Majors (neighbourhood festivals) in Gràcia (Barcelona), the Mercè Festival, dedicated to the Patron Saint of Barcelona; the Festa Major of Roser de Maig in Cerdanyola; les Santes, Mataró’s principal festival; the festival of Santa Coloma de Gramenet; the ball de plaça (town-square dance) in Terrassa; the trobada de gegants (meeting of “giants”) in Matadepera; the Sant Anastasi Festival in Badalona, and the Iberian Festival in Santa Coloma de Gramenet.

Taste…
The culinary traditions of the area can be divided into two contrasting groups: on the coast dishes made with fish and freshmarket produce predominate, whereas further inland dishes with meat, such as pigs feet, and a great variety of fungi are common. Furthermore immigration from the rest of Spain and even from abroad has meant that regional Spanish dishes from the Basque Country, Galicia, Castilla and Andalusia are also present and that tapas bars have become increasingly numerous.
