El Puig de Castellet

Puig de Castellet is located in Lloret de Mar (la Selva), and was a fortified enclosure that served as a lookout tower or vantage point.

Puig de castellet

The first news of the Puig de Castellet date from 1943, but did not start to excavate until 1968. After years of sporadic works, the Archaeological Research Center of Girona, in collaboration with the Municipality of Lloret de Mar, undertook systematic excavations between 1975 and 1986. The settlement is a group of buildings inhabited for fifty years until ca. the year 200 BC, which was abandoned. Since the enclosure is a broad coastal strip dominated and controlled directly by other Iberian settlements in the area. The visit to the archaeological remains are complemented by a route that allows us to observe the botanic species typical of Mediterranean vegetation and, through the study of coal recovered in the excavation, identify those that already existed in the Iberian period.
