• The wide, fine-sand beaches of the Costa Daurada and the craggy coves and beaches of the Garraf.

• The Garraf Nature Park, Parc Comarcal d’Olèrdola (Olèrdola District Park) and the Penedès region in general are ideal places for hiking. Venture through the Serra de l'Ordal, the Serres de Mediona and Orpinell and the Serra de Montmell, which offers visitors breathtaking views of the coast; all mountain ranges have sign-posted routes and paths. In the Sant Marc Valley, stroll through cool locations brimming with leafy vegetation.

• Watching the groups of castellers construct human towers. These performances are steeped in tradition and rooted in local festivities.

• Carnival in the town of Sitges, as well as its film and theatre festivals.
• The Fira del Gall (Rooster Fair) in Vilafranca del Penedès, where you can personally select meat for Yule-time meals.

• The rich historical heritage in the Roman city of Tarraco, the Roman villas Els Munts and Centcelles, and the Modernist and Romantic towns Sitges and Vilanova i la Geltrú.

Taste…

• The Penedès Designation of Origin wine and cava, whose production is centred around Sant Sadurní d'Anoia. We recommend you visit the cellars and caves, some of which are of great architectural interest, or attend the various grape harvest festivals held in many of the wine-producing villages throughout the Penedès region.

• Romesco sauce, made withdried, slightly hot peppers, fresh tomato, toasted almonds and hazel nuts -and essential part of the gastronomy of the region. There are two outstanding dishes with romesco sauce: la xatonada (salt codwithcrinkly lettuce and anchovies) and la calçotada (grilled sweet, spring onion).

• Good quality fish dishes all along the coast. In el Serrallo, the fisherman's part of Tarragona, fresh fried fish is a local speciality.
