L’Esquerda
Roda de Ter, Osona
L'Esquerda is situated on of one of the meanders made by the river Ter before it goes into the Guilleries region. From this impressive locale, one gains a commanding view of the entire northwest section of the Vic Plain. This location is a strategic enclave that was occupied from Prehistory to the Middle Ages.
The Iberian civilization was at its height from the end of the 5th until the 3rd century BC. The most noteworthy features from this latter time period include the fortified wall, with its two compact towers that flank the settlement’s entrance, and a cobbled road that traverses the village from north to south, onto which a series of workshops opened. In the 2nd century BC the settlement was destroyed and the whole fortification was damage. L'Esquerda's Iberian period came to an end in the 1st century BC when the settlement was abandoned after being destroyed again.
