Catalunya C14
Radiocarbon Database
Catalonia’s radiocarbon database compiles data from archaeological contexts, extracted from sites from the northeast region of the Iberian Peninsula. The time-range runs from approximately 50,000 years before the Common Era to 500 years before the Common Era.
The Museu d’Arqueologia de Catalunya and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona’s Quantitive Archaeology Laboratory have combined efforts to make carbon-14 dating available for all interested professionals, just as they have been published, along with contextual information associated with the dated samples and relevant archaeological materials. Online services provide additional information on carbon-14 methodology and links to similar databases worldwide.
This project, a compilation of all absolute dates from Catalonia’s pre-historical archaeological contexts, has been a collective effort involving many people. Yet the project continues, as organisers aim to update the databases in a timely fashion, adding new dates and information. Catalunya C14 allows users to localise specifically dated archaeological samples – using common data such as laboratory or site codes– or obtain date lists based on archaeological site, environmental region and/or historical period.
The institutions involved in this project cannot guarantee all information is accurate. While all possible measures have been taken to contrast data, said data is limited by the quality of bibliographic references.
