Les Sorres X
(Castelldefels, Baix Llobregat)
When constructing the Olympic Canal in 1990 in preparation for the 1992 Olympic Games, civil works uncovered a vessel with an overall length of 10.5 meters, which was transporting amphoras filled with fish preserve. This vessel dates to the second half of the 14th century.
The ship was found in a good state of preservation, having been conserved in the Llobregat Delta’s water table. With the excavation and documentation process completed, the ship was moved to the CASC laboratories, where it was preserved via PEG immersion.
Thanks to stamps found on the jars, archaeologists conclude they were manufactured in Barcelona; a fact that proves trade existed between the city and its areas of economic influence.
